TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA

Metro/Urban Population: 5.1 Million

Toronto is a meeting place,

a crossroads of many cultures and ethnicities.

Toronto is downtown Canada,

the biggest city in the country with a skyline to match.

Toronto has 7 structures in its skyline

that stand at over 200 metres,

including the astonishingly tall 553 metre,

CN Tower,

which is often referred to as

the tallest free-standing structure in the world.

While mostly untrue

(because there are taller TV masts in the world),

the CN Tower possess the world's highest observation deck,

making this city's skyline one of the most immediately identifiable.

HOWEVER!

Surely you did not think I was not going to challenge this?!

I've been to Toronto, and found it to be a mini-New York,

and if this is the only Canadian city you visit,

then you are doing yourself, and Canada,

a huge mis-justice!

My personal favorites are

MONTREAL

VANCOUVER

AND

THE QUEBEC CITY WINTER CARNIVAL!

Retired Canadian wanted on sex abuse charges.

A retired Canadian priest

who once held a senior post at the Vatican

and was a close friend of Pope John Paul II

is wanted by police on sex abuse charges.

Sexual Abuse Victims Disappointed with Pope's Statement

Advocates for victims of sexually abusive priests

expressed disappointment following Pope John Paul II’s address,

to an audience of 800,000 people at World Youth Day in Toronto.

During the three-hour-long Mass,

the pope alluded to the sex scandal plaguing the church,

admitting that “the harm done… to the young and vulnerable

fills us all with a deep sense of sadness and shame.”

However, he stopped short of issuing an apology.

Instead, he urged the audience to

“think of the vast majority of dedicated and generous priests”

and “be close to them and support them.”

Meanwhile, his support for victims apparently holds a lower priority -

last week, the pope rejected a request

to meet with CANADIAN survivors of sexual abuse by priests.

THE REAL QUESTION IS THIS ...

ARE YOU WILLING TO GAMBLE YOUR CHILD'S LIFE/SANITY

ON WHICH PRIEST IS OR ISN'T A PREDATOR?

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

Metro/Urban Population: 1.5 Million

This is probably the most impressive city worldwide

that has less than 2 million residents.

Marvelous modern buildings reach the sky here,

and while the skyline is not too dense,

it does allow buildings to soar and stand out.

Kuala Lumpar has three of the 25 tallest buildings worldwide,

including the tallest twin buildings,

the Petronas Towers

(which are arguably the second and third tallest overall in the world)

as well as the 420 metre Menara Kuala Lumpur Tower.

Defrocked Priest Gets 3 Years For Sex Act With Boy

A fired high school administrator and defrocked priest

who molested an emotionally disturbed teenage student in Central Park

was sentenced Wednesday to one to three years in prison.

State Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller sentenced Bruce Jacques, 57,

on his guilty plea last month to two counts of third-degree criminal sex act,

calling him "an exploiter and victimizer of the weak."

Jacques, captured in April after being on the run for months

in places as distant as Malaysia,

admitted that he performed a sex act on the 16-year-old boy,

first in his Manhattan school and hours later in Central Park.

SHENZHEN, CHINA

Metro/Urban Population: 4.2 Million

What was a tiny fishing village on the border of Hong Kong in 1970

is now a buzzing metropolis of over four million people.

With 13 buildings at over 200 meters tall,

including the Shun Hing Square

(the 8th tallest building in the world),

Shenzen is a marvel of lights after sunset.

You can't help but ask yourself

if you are in a video game or in a real city.

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA

Metro/Urban Population: 20.8 Million

This city's skyscrapers are divided into many clusters,

spread amongst the main businesses and residential districts.

Most of the recent growth in Seoul's skyline,

however, has been of residential towers over 60 storeys high

that are shooting up like blades of grass!

There are 10 buildings in Seoul over 200 meters tall

and much of the mid-rise to high-rise structures

are lined up in a linear fashion,

creating a "wall" of buildings like no other.

Seoul is where the ancient Eastern world meets the modern West.

What building did you say they lived in?

Finding it in the largest mass of condensed apartment buildings

anywhere would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Sao Paolo has a population of over 18 million people!

While the buildings are not super tall

(with only a single structure at over 200 meters tall)

this skyline is nevertheless stacked.

Sao Paolo has a fleet of over 500 helicopters,

the second largest helicopter fleet in the world.

And I should like to say to these people ...

Priest sex scandal shocks Brazil

A GROWING sex abuse scandal

is rocking the world's largest national Catholic congregation.

A Brazilian priest has been given a long jail sentence

after a court heard extracts from a diary

that read like a pedophile priest's how-to manual.

A magazine earlier published evidence that,

according to estimates by Vatican investigators,

one in 10 of Brazil's priests was involved in some form of sexual misdemeanour.

The signs of abuse in a country that is home to about 125 million Catholics

will be of particular concern to the church hierarchy.

Until now Catholic leaders comforted themselves with the belief that,

no matter how battered its reputation in rich nations such as the US,

the church continued to be held in high esteem in the developing world.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Metro/Urban Population: 4.2 Million

Australia's showcase city,

Sydney has one of the most recognizable skylines

due to its world-famous harbour,

often referred to as the most beautiful natural harbour in the world.

The Sydney Harbour has many bays,

inlets and secondary harbours.

It is spanned by the monumental Harbour Bridge,

and the magnificent Opera House

decorates the shoreline like a white flower.

The Sydney skyline is world-class

with hundreds of skyscrapers

in the central business district

and many more high-rise buildings

in the outlying neighbourhoods.

Sydney has 8 buildings over 200 metres tall.

The entire world could learn a few things

from the overly friendly people down-under ...

I FOUND THE AVERAGE AUSSIE TO BE

FRIENDLY, RESPECTFUL, AND FILLED WITH PRIDE.

Yes, there were exceptions ... aren't there always?!

One thing that impressed me most

was their television programming

which was filled with music videos,

instead of constant commercials,

as well as with uplifting messages

of why one should be proud to be

AN AUSTRALIAN!

SYDNEY NEWS

Sex Abuse Scandal Flares In Australia

The head of Australia's Catholic Church on Monday

refused to resign over accusations that he offered money

to buy the silence of three people sexually abused as children by priests.

Meanwhile boys at a school run by the Salesian order in South Australia

were allegedly given drugs, alcohol and cigarettes

and shown pornographic movies by a pedophile priest who was later jailed.

In BRISBANE, Queensland, Australia:

The Anglican Church's inquiry into sex-abuse

yesterday claimed its first scalp when Gilbert Case,

who headed the church's schools in Queensland, resigned.

Mr Case, who cited errors in judgment,

also announced he would resign his position

from the Anglican Diocese Council.

In a written statement yesterday,

Mr Case admitted responsibility for referring

innocent and vulnerable schoolchildren

to school counsellor and paedophile Kevin "Skippy" Lynch

who then sexually abused them.

"I have spoken to many victims over the last six years.

With some, sadly, I have had to admit a special responsibility

that I was the one who referred them for counselling,

and trusted that Kevin Lynch would help them," Mr Case said.

Mr Case's departure followed what Anglican Archbishop Dr Phillip Aspinall

yesterday described delicately as a "separation agreement",

made more complex by his predecessor

Governor-General Dr Peter Hollingworth

being aware of Mr Case's alleged shortcomings

when he promoted him to the job.

IN ANOTHER REPORT

MOST Australians believe

the British queen's representative in Australia

should resign over claims he covered up

child sex abuse in the Anglican Church,

according to a poll taken.
